Tutorial: Creating text for 3d engraving into crystal using Blender

This tutorial will show you how to make text that looks good when engraved inside crystal. Extruded text is made up of a front and a back face. Two layers of points. This engraves opaque. If you want strong, bright text, you will need more layers. Follow the slides above to see how.

Or you can follow the short notes below:-

  1. SHIFT A
  2. Select TEXT
  3. In the PROPERTIES viewport, click on>> EXTRUDE by .01
  4. ...
  5. Then click on >> ADD MODIFIER >> Array
  6. ...
  7. Change the array settings so that COUNT = 4, X = 0, and Z = 1
  8. Once you're finished modelling, convert it into a mesh for engraving into a crystal.
    ALT C >> MESH

This nice thing about using the array modifier is that you can continue editing the text, you can copy the text, you can put the text on a curve, and it will still be made up of multiple layers.
