Cyathea medullaris

Common names:

  • Mamaku
  • Black Fern

Frost kills off fronds, but regrows in spring.
Tolerates wind and full sun once established.
Can grow up to 20m. Spread 6m.

These respond well watering. Bare rooted trunks without fronds responded poorly to 1/4 of a watering can per day. But fronds start unfurling faster with 1 to 2 whole watering cans of water per day.
